THINK DETROIT PAL ELITE BRINGS HOME 22 MEDALS FROM JUNIOR OLYMPICS

Detroit, Mich –Think Detroit PAL’s Elite track and field team earned 22 medals in 13 events at the 2011 AAU Junior Olympics in New Orleans. Nearly 80 TDP Elite athletes qualified for the competition that took place July 30 to August 6.

TDP Elite was led by 13 year old Isaiah Griffith, who won two gold medals. He captured the boys long jump gold in the Sub-Youth division with a jump of 20’1”. He also won the gold in the boys Sub-Youth triple jump with a jump of 42’5”, a new national record. His final jump marked the third time Griffith broke the national record during the event.

Michael Williams(11) – Sub-Midget- 100m and 200m
Christian Carter(10) – Bantam - 400m
Kevin Hayes(14) – Youth - 200m Hurdles
Keianna Ingram(17) – Young Women -High Jump
Cameron Cooper(12) – Midget-800m and 1500m
Midget (11-12) Boys 4X100 relay

“Congratulations to the kids, parents and coaches for a job well done,” said Dewayne Jones, Think Detroit PAL’s director of athletics. “Our Track program continues to accomplish great things which include character building and responsibility.  This is truly a program that our community can be proud of.”

Think Detroit PAL was formed in 2006 with the merger of Think Detroit Inc. and the Detroit Police Athletic League.  In partnership with the Detroit Police Department and community volunteers, Think Detroit PAL builds character in young people through athletic, academic and leadership development programs.  In 2010, Think Detroit PAL served over 10,000 girls and boys through 10 sports, making it one of the largest youth organizations in the state of Michigan. More than 80 cents of each dollar donated to Think Detroit PAL goes directly into programming.
